For decades the holy grail of AI for education has been the creation of an autonomous tutor: an algorithm that can monitor students’ progress, understand what they know and what motivates them, and provide an optimal, adaptive learning experience. 背景：许多人将人工智能工具视作提升教育质量的法宝。当然他们许多充分的理由。我们看到线上教育内容激增，智能技术的兴起似乎让大规模的个性化教育服务触手可及。但在解决社会问题方面，技术有着糟糕的记录，常常带来意外的伤害。因此在为教育AI大唱赞歌之前，我们必须谨慎地考量潜在的消极影响，一方面让工程师在更全面的视角下构建技术，一方面预先制定相应的行为规范。教育并不只是灌输知识那么简单。学生去学校的目的，不仅仅是掌握死的知识，还包括学习思维方式，发展社会情感能力，建立师生和同窗情谊。虽然传统的教育系统和人类教师有很多缺陷和不足，但若贸然取代现有的结构，我们将付出不小的代价。教育这个领域和医疗一样，是基本的社会民生事业，同样应以希波克拉底氏誓言(Hippocratic oath)为指南：首先，请勿造成伤害。
