两性话题从来都是重要的话题!
传统的两性社会分析认为，虽然人们会倾向于选择和自己性格和理念相似的人，比如同样的宗教信仰或者节俭的生活作风，但涉及长相和收入时，却是再美再多也不嫌过。美貌和金钱被视为婚恋市场上最炙手可热的筹码。这种观念下最常见的模式莫过于“郎财女貌”,但圣母大学的社会学家伊丽莎白·麦克林托克通过详尽的研究发现，实际生活中“郎财女貌”基本不存在，就算偶有出现也不会长久。男女求偶过程中主导的力量是“匹配”。她写道，有些结合看起来是美貌配财富，但其实是一系列优点的互相匹配。经济成功的女性嫁给收入可观的男性，长相不俗的男子娶了貌美如花的妻子。女性通常会花更多资源在保养上，新闻会常常报道男女薪酬的差距; 所以女性会比男性看起来更悦目，男性会比女性收入更高。于是人们就总是觉得：女性依靠美貌晋升了经济阶层，而男性依靠收入抢到了比自己更有魅力的女性。但通过仔细对比，会发现其实双方在长相、教育、经济阶层甚至在生活习惯上都是非常“门当户对”的。
